March is here!

We will continue to work on various sensory activities and with our signs. For review purposes, most of the signs for this month will be repeats from previous months. We will be adding some new signs that relate to spring.

We will continue with our collaborative group on Friday’s. Please see dates below.

March 2- Dr. Seuss (Green Eggs & Ham)
March 9- Hibernation
March 16- St. Patrick’s Day
March 23- Seeds and Planting
March 30- Flowers and growing

We will be working on VAAP skills as well this month.

Happy February!

Collaborative Group Themes of the Month: Hibernation, Black History Month, President’s Day, Winter Animals, Valentine’s Day, and Dental Awareness.

We will continue to work on lessons that involve various sensory materials that pair well with our learning objectives. We will be learning new sign language terms that relate to our themes and to the over month of February. Some of the new terms are listed below:

Sign Language Vocabulary Terms: Colors, Bear, Mitten, Warm, Sleep, Awake, Cold, Hot, Man, Woman, Valentine, Heart, Happy, Winter Animals, America, Tooth, Clean, Dirty, Brush, Toothbrush

We will be working on several learning activities that have arts and crafts components. Some of these activities will be during our collaborative groups on Friday with Speech.

JANUARY is here!

Collaborative Group Theme of the Month: Snow/Snowmen

We will continue to work on lessons that involve various sensory materials that pair well with our learning objectives. This month will incorporate some of the vocabulary from last month and the new terms for January. Some of the new terms are listed below.

Sign Language Vocabulary Terms: snow, cold, snowflake, alike, different, falling, bear, blue, white, help, snowman

We will be working on several learning activities that have arts and crafts components. Some of these activities will be during our collaborative groups on Friday with Speech. These activities will involve the following book titles: “Snowman Moon”, “Frosty the Snowman”, “Snowy Day”, and “Snowflake”.

Happy December!!!

I am very excited to switch gears and talk about the many changes that happen during winter! We are planning collaborative activities that involve signing, motor skills, math, language arts, and reading!! For each activity we will make a craft, discuss the directions and skills targeted, learn new signs, and read a story. We are going to have a great time!

The following are dates for the collaborative activities:

Some of the new signs we will target this month include the following:

Seasonal:Tree, Star, Decoration, Lights, Gift, Candy Cane, Snow, Winter, Cold, and Snowflake

Colors: Red, Yellow, Green, Blue, Purple, White, and Black

Other: Help, Music, Jacket, Happy, Play, Craft, and Work

This month we do not have school from December 22nd through January 2nd. Schools reopen on January 3rd.

With the weather getting cooler, please remember your winter clothing! We will be taking walks outside on days that aren’t too cold.

Happy November!

This week we will not have school on Tuesday, November 8th and Friday, November 11th. Please be sure to mark your calendars.

We will learn several new signs this week that focus on fall colors and seasonal items (pumpkins, turkeys, Thanksgiving, family, trees, autumn, November, etc). I will be reviewing and sending home a list of our newest signs. Stay tuned!

Welcome back! It was great to see you at orientation!

I am looking forward to our first week of school. This week we will be spending time getting adjusted to our daily routine and classroom environment. The subject areas we will begin working on this week are Math, Language Arts, and Science. We will be incorporating sensory items and music into our lessons as well as several hands-on learning activities. I am looking forward to a great year ahead!
